At last the BP Challenge cup went ahead - on arrival at Sumburgh airport on Friday 24th April the Western Isles squad of 13 players under the co - management of Dano Macdonald and Billy Flower were looking forward to the challenge off the on the Shetland squad.

Colin Macritchie, Murdo Maclennan, Niall Gibson, Domhnall Mackay, Euan Macleod, Andrew Dunn, Donald Macphail, Andrew Murray, John Morrison, Martin Maclean and Calum Mackay. Subs – Martin Macphee.
As defending champions the Western Isles squad were determined to retain the cup, the game was a tightly contested affair with both teams desperate to finish on top. In the end it was the Western Isles who came out on top with a narrow 1 – 0 victory. Goal scorer Domhnall Mackay.

Finally the Western Isles Island Games Association would like to thank our Shetland counter parts for their hospitality.
The Swimming squad travelled to Dingwall Leisure Centre on Saturday 25th April. This session was a great opportunity for the squad to bond as a team and gain valuable experience in a different environment.
The squad extends its gratitude to the NatWest Sports Development Programme for supporting this trip.
The Women’s Football squad travelled to the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall on Saturday 25th April as part of the pre Aland preparations. The squad took part in a training session before playing a game against a local team.
This pre Aland development training/games sessions would not have been possible if it was not for the support of the Scottish Football Partnership.
The Western Isles Island Games Association is sending a squad to Aland to compete in 6 different sports on Saturday 27th June departing from Stornoway returning a week later.
