WIIGA BGM 2024

The Biennial General Meeting of the Western Isles Island Games Association will take place in the Council Chambers at 6pm on Wednesday 28 February, with a virtual joining option available for those not able to attend in person. The meeting will give attendees a chance to reflect on the 2023 Island Games as well as looking forward to the 2025 Games in Orkney. Representatives from the following 18 Island Games sports are encouraged to attend:

• Gymnastics
• Judo
• Lawn Bowls
• Sailing
• Shooting
• Squash
• Swimming
• Table-Tennis
• Tennis
• Triathlon

If anyone has any items of business that they wish to be raised at the meeting please send these to m.stone@cne-siar.gov.uk no later than Wednesday 14^th February 2024. The MS Teams link for the BGM is available on request for those who cannot attend in person and an agenda will be circulated in advance of the meeting. 

Sponsorship announcement 2023

Bakkafrost Scotland is to continue sponsoring the Western Isles Island Games Association (WIIGA) as they prepare to travel to Guernsey for the 2023 NatWest International Island Games.

Run with the support of volunteers from across the sporting community, WIIGA works in partnership with local sports clubs throughout the Western Isles and provides invaluable support to elite athletes to enable them to compete in the competition against 23 other islands from across the world, every two years. This year’s competition expects 3,000 participants and a further 2,000 island visitors to attend.

The 2023 event will see the biggest WIIGA squad yet, with around 110 athletes and support team travelling to Guernsey. They will spend a week (8-15 July) competing in sports including football, indoor bowls, golf, badminton, cycling, shooting, swimming and athletics. WIIGA will be competing in women’s golf and archery for the first time in 2023.

Bakkafrost Scotland has a proud history of supporting the communities in which it operates, directly enabling local athletes to compete at an elite level on the world stage.
